Get Sandal-Worthy Feet for Summer: Baby Foot Peel Review

BabyFoot02

I put my feet through the ringer on a daily basis – I walk a lot and have been a runner, on and off, for most of my life. Over the years, my feet have built up some pretty gnarly calluses and rough spots. I’ve tried to exfoliate and file some of it off, with mixed success.

I don’t remember where or when I first heard about Baby Foot ($25), an exfoliating peel, but I’ve been intrigued for a while now. When it popped up on Beauty.com during their Friends & Family 20% off sale, I decided to give it a try.

Baby Foot consists of a pair of plastic booties filled with an exfoliating gel containing a number of acids, including lactic and glycolic acids, that exfoliate the feet. It also claims to be infused with 17 natural extracts that soothe and moisturize skin. Here is a look at the ingredient list:

After washing your feet, you place the booties on your feet, tape the excess plastic down so that the booties conform to your feet, and leave in place for an hour. After a few days, your feet should start to peel. Once the excess dry, callused skin has fallen away, you should be left with noticeably softer, smoother feet.

The instructions recommend staying seated for the duration of the treatment – the booties do feel a bit slippery. I put a pair of slipper socks over the booties to keep them in place and to provide some traction.

The gel is supposed to be lavender-scented, and it does smell quite nice, a mix of herbal and floral. About 45 minutes into the treatment, the tops of my feet felt a little irritated. When I removed the booties after an hour, my feet were a little pinker than normal, but had not experienced any adverse reactions. After washing my feet, I applied sunscreen, as I was going outside. After treatments like face peels, your skin is especially delicate and in need of protection. The skin on your feet is no different, so be sure to protect it after a peel.

The packaging indicates that your feet should start to peel 5-7 days after the treatment and may peel for up to 2 weeks afterwards. Mine started to peel after 2 days and peeled for about 3-4 days. My peel may have been accelerated because I was walking a lot right after the treatment and I spent several days walking across nubbly carpet in a hotel room (my floors at home are hardwood). Quite a lot of dry, dead skin sloughed off within a short period, especially around the ends of my toes and the underside of my heel.

My results weren’t particularly dramatic – i.e. my feet were not baby-like by any stretch of the imagination – but they were noticeably softer and smoother. To be fair, the bottoms of my feet were pretty rough and tough, so I’m pretty happy with the results. I’ll probably do another in a few months, and in the meantime I’ll touch up with a foot file.

If you’re looking for a good foot treatment, give Baby Foot a try!
